Hello Everyone,
I have had so many inquiries about Jens’s health that I just wanted to touch base and update everyone on how he is doing; we both feel so grateful for the immense amount of well wishes and positive vibes we have received from many of you!
He had both his back surgeries one week apart in early February. This was quite unexpected because we were expecting the first one in early February and the second one in late April. The first surgery was on his cervical spine, ie neck and the second was on his lumbar spine ie lower back. Both went quite well and he is recovering. He is going to physiotherapy and trying to regain the full use of his right foot. We were told nerves take up to 1 year to recover and maybe regenerate. For the time being, we are waiting for him to heal from the trauma of 2 major surgeries. He is doing really well and is very hopeful for a recovery and the return to his regular farming chores.
We had to make the difficult decision to give up one of our saturday markets this season and will be back in Toronto for only Evergreen Brickworks. As you all know Wychwood Barns outdoor market needs some restoration and repair work and the walkway between the Wychwood and Christie Entrances will be at least partially closed. That is right in the middle of our market spot and it seemed like a divine message that we can indeed make this decision which probably will make it easier to relocate the other vendors in that area.
In the meantime I will be able to establish a more substantial farm store and CSA which will be open 3 days/weekly, June 18 to October 10 (Thanksgiving). In the coming years we should be able to open in early May, however this year there is still some construction that needs to be completed.
I think the first Brickworks outdoor market is on May 2nd; 8 am to 1 pm. We really don’t have too much: mostly stored root veggies, spinach and maybe some wild stuff and flowers. It has been so cold that I am not expecting asparagus to start till the 3rd week.
I think this is all I have got to say. I will restart my regular emails in May.
And a special message to our Wychwood Barns customers: WE are really sad about our difficult decision, hopefully you will make the trek to Brickworks sometimes to see Jens and hopefully you will get a chance to visit the farm store and Ayse. I will visit when I can!
Thanks so much again, for all your kind thoughts, your support has meant so much to Jens and myself!
Ayse and Jens
