Hello everyone

Another hot and dry week went by. If you were checking the weather radar yesterday and the day before, you would have thought  we were hit by multiple thunderstorms.  Those thunderstorms never happened here. This year we increased the size of our flower gardens as well as planting many trees. All of that needs watering quite frequently, it would have been nice not to worry for a few days!

This week we seem to have turned the red tomato corner, we are getting quite a few with colour. Unfortunately cherry tomatoes are still not in abundance.

Beans, green, purple and yellow and flat slicing beans are producing a tremendous harvest . The first cucumbers that we planted have slowed down, on the other hand the second batch we planted are almost ready to be picked. Yesterday, we picked corn. I managed  eat 3 of them. These ones were the all yellow variety. I think I planted some peaches and cream corn as well, however,  last summer the all yellow sweet corn was extremely popular.

This coming Saturday should be the one almost everybody returns to the city, and almost everybody starts thinking about putting away some of the summer’s bounty. Well, we have lots! And we are growing all the ingredients of many pickles, relishes, sauces and salsas. The eggplants are fantastic this year, I  don’t know if everyone realizes that we are growing Asian, Turkish, Italian eggplants as well as an heirloom Italian one which really has no seeds despite its heft! It is called Black Beauty. Highly recommended.

The flowers are getting more beautiful by the day. Dahlias are speeding up their production and we picked the first few Lisianthus, which should be going into full production within a couple of weeks. The biggest surprise for me this year was the “Double Click Cosmos” . They are amazing looking, with all kinds of colours and looking more like poppies than cosmos

A new batch of Snapdragons started flowering and we still have perennials. Let’s see how many bouquets we are going to end up coming with.

Yesterday, I started the seedlings of next spring’s flowers. You know all those beautiful bell flowers, and many more we were selling last May.

So this gives everyone an idea of what we will be coming with on saturday.

Pastry wise we will have Nectarine Pies, Cherry pies and Strawberry rhubarb pies.

The quiche will be mushroom and Cheddar Cheese. Last week I came back from the market with an abundance of mushrooms. We thought we would give mushroom Quiche a try!

And we made a large quantity of Chocolate Zucchini Cake. I know there are lots of people looking forward to it.

Jens’s new trailer is finally ready, well sort of ready, it needs lights and a few little things which I am sure will be taken care of very soon. The best is he will have space for the crazy amounts of vegetables and flowers that are still coming up! Every friday, loading the trailer becomes a huge challenge. There is simply not enough space. He even resorts to tying up the trolley to the back of the truck. This new one is wider and longer and hopefully big enough.

I think I have run out of the latest news, I still have to do some bank bill paym ents and write a list for the workers.

The markets are going to be warm and sunny. Maybe a bit too warm. Last week’s benches were a success. There were a lot of people using them. So, of course, I will bring them again!

Hopefully everyone gets a chance to visit one of the markets, there is a remarkable amount of abundance,

See you soon!
