MARVELLOUS EDIBLES FARM CSA/vegetable Share Program SUMMER 2025/ 18 weeks = $576 Starting July: CSA/Flower Share Program SUMMER 2025/ 10 weeks = $225

What is a CSA?

Simply put, it is being a shareholder to a farm’s anticipated harvest for a whole growing season. The members commit to the membership at the beginning of the season, and the farm guarantees 20 weeks of freshly picked vegetables that they will grow that season. CSA members always have priority and first pick of a week’s harvest.

What is to be gained by this relationship?

The farm receives a much-needed cash flow at the beginning of the season when expenses are high and revenue is low. The shareholders are guaranteed access to some of the best tasting and freshest vegetables they can possibly get. Marvellous Edibles, as an Organic farm, is committed to supply the best that the farm produces. We believe that our wide selection of vegetables and fruits offer an excellent program to CSA’s. There is also a variety of preserves, baking and Organic eggs that you can purchase while picking up.

Where and When

Pick ups are at the farm Wednesdays 2:30 to 6:30 pm daylight permitting.

Coming to the farm for pick up has its advantages because we are set up as a vegetable stand and each shareholder can choose the vegetables they want using a point system. At the same time, the members have access to fresh flower bouquets, organic eggs, preserves and baking.

In addition, we are situated on a beautiful section of the Niagara Escarpment and The Bruce Trail and you have full access to the property with your family and friends on the day of pick up.

Program starting June 17th

Our program allows you to choose the produce you want. Each vegetable will have a point value. For example a bunch of carrots is 1 point, a head of lettuce is 1 one point, a quart of potatoes is one point etc.

The cost of one share per week is $ 32.00 and it is equal to 8 points. Our program is 18 weeks long. This year, it will start June 17 and end October 22.

A single share will be sufficient for a family of 2-4 who love produce, And remember you can always add a few extras at a comparable price.

For example on June 17, the first week of pick ups, you could get a head lettuce, bag of greens, bunch of Swiss Chard, 2 fennel, 2 bok choy, a bundle of asparagus, carrots or potatoes. We grow a very large variety of vegetables and some fruits, for a longer season.

Farmers are notoriously overworked and underpaid. A CSA  is an opportunity to pay a farmer directly, cutting out the middleman. CSA’s  and Farmers Markets are the shortest form of food distribution.  When you purchase a share of the CSA program at Marvellous Edibles Farm, you will become our partner for a whole growing season. As a shareholder you are agreeing to share the risk that is associated with farming a small farm operation. Although we have never had a total crop failure, there is always a risk associated with weather, disease and pests, especially in an organic farm.

On the other hand, you are helping sustain a small family run farm, and contributing to overall food security in our country. In return you are going to receive a weekly basket of freshly grown vegetables and fruits.

A CSA program is a fantastic way to receive freshly grown local produce.

However, keep in mind that  a market garden  farm is not a grocery store, and have available only what is in their crop plan for that particular week. Some of what is available will be only for a few weeks and some will be available for most of the season. Generally earlier in the season, your basket will have mostly greens, mid season will be lots of summer vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers,  beans, corn, and later in fall there will be a bountiful  harvest of roots, summer vegetables, squash, cabbage and so on. There will be days when your share will be extremely generous and you will have to can, freeze or dry your share of the harvest.

Payment:

You may pay for your  share via e transfer or cheque. We prefer to be paid in full by May 15, before the season starts.

Refunds or Cancellations.

You can cancel your subscription at any time before the start of the season and will receive a full refund

If you are unhappy with your subscription, you can cancel and will be refunded the full  remaining value of your share at any point during the season.

You may put your pickups on hold for up to 2 weeks anytime in the season. You will be given a credit that you can use later to purchase other items from our farm.

You are responsible for the pickups of your share. If you are unable to pick up, please arrange for someone else to pick up for you. If you need to cancel your share we would like 48 hours’ notice, as it affects our harvest.

As we are restarting our CSA program after a break of 10 years, we are keeping it  as simple as possible.

Pick ups are from the farm only, Wednesdays 2:30-6:30. Pick ups are an amazing opportunity to visit a local farm. Not only is it time spent in the country, it is a chance to form a relationship with the whole circle of food, climate and sustainability.

Hope to see you soon,

Your Farmers, Ayse Akoner and Jens Eller
